For clients · Getting your site live

What we need from you, and how to share it safely.

You liked your preview. To put it live on your own domain, we need a few links and a little access. Most of it takes five minutes, and you never have to give us a password.

Your Square links

No login needed

Why we need them

Your new site’s “Order”, “Book” and “Shop” buttons send customers to Square, so payments, orders and appointments keep working exactly as they do today.

How to share them

  1. Open your Square Online store, booking page, or payment link the way a customer would.
  2. Copy the web address from the top of your browser.
  3. Paste it into an email or text to us. That’s it.

Not sure which links you have? Send us your square.site address and we’ll find them.

What if something has to change inside Square?

Occasionally we need a change made in your Square account, like creating a payment link or unpublishing your old square.site page once the new site is live. The safest options, in order:

  1. A quick screen share. You stay logged in on your own device and we walk you through it in about 10 minutes.
  2. A team-member login of our own. In Square, add us as a team member with only the Online permission turned on. Depending on your Square plan, custom permissions may need a paid team plan, so check before you set it up. Remove us when we’re done.

Your domain

You own it, we set it up

Why we need it

Your domain (like yourshop.com) is your address on the web. It should be registered to you, so it stays yours whoever builds your site. We need permission to point it at your new website.

Option A (recommended): you register it, then invite us

  1. We’ll send you the exact name to buy and a link to a registrar.
  2. Create the account with your own email and buy the domain. Usually about $10 to $25 a year for a .com.
  3. Invite us to help manage it. Most registrars have a sharing feature. On GoDaddy it’s called Delegate Access: choose Domains Only and enter our email.

Option B: we register it for you, in your name

If you’d rather not deal with it, we register the domain listing you as the owner and your email as the contact. You’ll get a confirmation email from the registrar. Please click the link in it, or the domain can be suspended. We’ll transfer the account to you any time you ask.

Your Google Business Profile

Manager access, you stay Owner

Why we need it

When people search for you or find you on Google Maps, your profile shows a “Website” button. We update it to your new address and make sure your hours and details match your site.

How to add us

  1. Search Google for your business name while signed in to the Google account that owns your profile.
  2. Open the menu, then Business Profile settings, then People and access.
  3. Select Add, enter our email address, choose Manager, and send the invite.

Managers can edit your listing but can’t remove you or delete the profile. Google’s labels change from time to time. If you can’t find it, we’ll walk you through it.

Your email

We don’t need your inbox

What to expect

Keep using your current email exactly as you do now. During setup you’ll get a few automatic emails that only you can act on:

  • Domain registrar: “Verify your email” or “Confirm your contact details”. Click the link.
  • Google: confirmation that you added us as a Manager. Nothing to do.
  • Square: only if you add us as a team member. Nothing to do.

If you’re not sure an email is genuine, forward it to us before clicking anything.

Want an email address at your new domain, like hello@yourshop.com?

We can set up forwarding so messages sent to your new address land in the inbox you already use. You keep your current inbox and login. We only change settings on the domain, never in your mailbox.

Your old Square page

After launch

Why it matters

Your square.site address is printed on cards, saved in customers’ phones and listed in Google. Once your new site is live, that old page should point people to it, so nobody lands on outdated hours or prices.

Square doesn’t offer a simple way to automatically forward a square.site address to a domain outside Square. Instead, we turn the old page into a clear signpost. Pick the option that fits how you sell:

Option A (most common): keep it as your store, add a “We’ve moved” message

Best if customers still check out through Square Online. Your new site’s Order or Shop button links to the store, and the store tells visitors where your main site lives.

  1. In your Square Dashboard, open your Square Online site editor.
  2. Edit the main banner at the top of your homepage. Add a headline like “We’ve moved! Visit yourshop.com” and a button linking to your new site.
  3. Update anything that’s now out of date, like hours or prices, so both sites agree, then publish.

See it in action: Alli Pop Dye Shop’s old Square page (opens in a new tab) now points shoppers to allipopdyeshop.com (opens in a new tab).

Option B: make it a simple signpost

Best if your new site handles everything and you only kept Square Online for its address. Hide or remove the other homepage sections so the page is just your name, the “We’ve moved” message and a big button to your new site.

Option C: unpublish it, but not right away

Once you’re sure nobody needs it, you can unpublish your Square Online site. Anyone using the old link will then see an error page, so wait a few months after launch while customers and Google catch up. Keep using Square for payments as normal.

Who makes these changes?

You can do it yourself in about 10 minutes, or we can do it with you on a quick screen share. If you’ve added us as a Square team member with Online access, we can make the change and send you a screenshot. Either way, you never need to share your password.

While you’re at it, update the link in your Instagram and Facebook bios, and anywhere else your square.site address appears, like menus, flyers and business cards.

After launch

You stay in control.

Once your site is live, we’ll send you a short list of everything we were given access to. Remove us from any of it whenever you like. If you’re on our Launch + Care plan, keeping Manager access lets us make updates for you.
